ANNA NILSEN
INTERIOR&FURNITURE DESIGN

About
Hi, I’m Anna Nilsen — an interior and furniture designer with a deep love for art, beautiful spaces, and the small details that make a place feel truly yours. I hold a master’s degree in interior and furniture design and have over eight years of experience creating interiors and custom furniture that are both beautiful and functional.
I offer interior design, technical layouts and 3D visualizations, custom furniture, and art collection planning services.
Below, you’ll learn more about my background and the experiences that shaped my design approach. If you are short on time, feel free to use the Projects button to go straight to my portfolio.
I grew up in St. Petersburg in a creative family where art was a natural part of daily life. My mother is a clothing designer, and our home was always filled with pencils, paints, and ideas. Since the age of six, I spent every Thursday walking through the Hermitage Museum. Surrounded by its magnificent interiors and one of the world’s richest art collections, I encountered masterpieces by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Monet, Matisse, and Kandinsky. Their mastery of light, color, and composition captivated me and nurtured a deep, intuitive understanding of visual harmony. These experiences shaped my own sense of color and beauty.
At the age of 12, I passed exams to enter an art lyceum affiliated with the Imperial Academy of Arts, where I was trained in classical techniques of oil painting and drawing. This education gave me a solid foundation for my future professional life.
In my teens, I was drawn to the bold lines and honesty of Constructivist architecture, which opened my eyes to design as something deeply purposeful. Later, during my travels in my twenties, I fell in love with modern Scandinavian architecture — its light- filled spaces, clean lines and deep connection to nature left a lasting impression on me.
I studied for six years at the Stieglitz Academy of Art and Design, one of Russia’s leading institutions. For the past eight years, I’ve worked with clients to create interiors and furniture that feel timeless, thoughtful, and quietly vibrant.
Now based in Moss, Norway — a place rich in both nature and industrial history — I find daily inspiration all around me.
Beyond interiors and furniture, I’m deeply inspired by art and applied arts, architecture, classical music, vintage costume jewelry, and even car design. I’m always curious about how things are made — the materials, the craftsmanship, and the stories behind them.
My style shifts to suit each project and client, but I’m especially drawn to clean shapes, strong contrasts, and interesting material pairings — like warm wood with cool concrete or glass, or a vintage piece alongside something new. I love blending old and new to bring a sense of depth, soul, and character to a space.
To me, good design isn’t just about how things look — it’s also about how they work. Thoughtful planning and precise execution are just as important as aesthetics. That’s what makes a space not only beautiful, but livable and lasting.
I speak English, Norwegian, and Russian, and collaborate with clients on:
- Interior design and decoration
- Technical drawings & 3D visualizations
- Custom furniture design
- Art collection planning
Whether you're imagining a new home, rethinking a commercial space, designing furniture, or curating an art collection — I’d love to hear your ideas.
Let’s bring your vision to life !
